Mattresses

Mattresses Mattress is a type of mat pad, usually placed on top of a bed, upon which to sleep or lie. The word mattress is prescribed with Arabic words meaning ‘to throw’ and place where something is thrown or mat, cushion. At the time of the Crusades, the Europeans adopted the Arabic method of sleeping on cushions thrown on the floor, and the word ‘matters’ eventually  went  into Middle English through the Romance languages.

Types of Mattresses
Spring core mattresses: - The core of the mattresses supports the sleeper’s body. Modern spring built up mattress cores are often known as ‘innersprings’, usually made up of steel coil springs, or ‘coils’. Connecting between the mattresses is used much for retaining its shape. Most coils are connected by interconnecting wires but encased coils are not connected, but the fabric encasement helps to preserve the mattress shape.

Air mattresses: - Air mattresses are formed by one or more air chambers instead of springs for the purpose of relaxing. Air mattresses are designed for typical bedroom for the adjustable air flows throughout the mattress. Air mattresses results in a variety of models from basic, no-frills ones to high-profile, 15" tall hybrids that contain several types of foam, pillow tops and digital pumps with memory, for individual pressure settings.

Foam mattresses: - Foam mattresses made of shape-conforming latex or viscoelastic memory foam are used more rather than springs to make firm build of mattress. Mattresses made by using memory foam or latex are generally hypoallergenic style. Initially foam varies in quality, prices can vary widely. Most mattress manufacturers use a line of memory foam mattresses for good durability of the mattresses.

Maintenance and care
Mattresses should be placed with a top of firm base to prevent sagging. A new mattress should be rotated at least for the first six months or once every 2 to3 months. Double sided, or two sided use, mattress should be alternately flipped and rotated. Manufacturers suggest that it is necessary to rotate or spin the box springs or foundation twice a year. Folding or bending of the mattress should be avoided if possible, as it may result in heavy wear in one spot. Mattresses should not be soaked, instead, they can be cleaned with a vacuum or with mild surface cleanser and a slightly damp cloth.
